** History Note:
On October 4, 1950, Fr. Alfred opens St. Anthony Dining Room, serving 400 meals the first day. After realizing guests suffer from untreated medical problems, Fr. Alfred creates a small First Aid Station in the Dining Room.
WE LOVE ST. ANTHONY'S and we are not happy about Marian's women shelter is closing. They do their operation very well, most of the time and even have a nutritionist or dietician that coordinates their meals and menu.
With the closing of the Haight-Ashbury Food Program (and cooking school run by Chef Dan before he retired last Christmas) for reasons we are still researching -- there has been a noticeable increase in demand for meals.
Indian Joe has become St. Anthony's Poster Boy. They made a postcard with his picture on it !!
It looks FANTASTIC. Oh should we say Fab-U-Lous....

More news... Indian Joe is at a Photo Shoot today in the Haight. He has an opportunity to go to New York to become a model (and go to modelling school).
Get this... If he doesn't make it to NY this week, he has a 'Chippendale' style bachelorette party penciled in for next week for about 25 or 30 local women to entertain a bride to be.... wow.... don't you just love this City !!
Strangely enough, Indian Joe, now truly famous, was having lunch today with our local SF Shelter Monitoring Committee Member Mr. Leonard (who was nominated by St. Anthony's Father Hardin for the LHCB Seat last year) and Mr. Leonard agreed to become Indian Joe's Agent.
If you have any photos of Indian Joe at St. Anthony's that you would like to share, please email him today at his new email addresses, set up by his New Agent Mr. Leonard:
sfindianjoe@yahoo.com or sfindianjoe@ymail.com
We sent an email to Mr. Leonard to confirm this he replied it was all true.
Our beloved Indian Joe may just be 'making it big' after some 18 years of being homeless and Mr. Leonard reminded us Indian Joe used to live under a bridge.
Mr. Leonard told us "Good thing for us that Indian Joe at some point made a decision to help others, even when he could not always help himself, as much as he would like to.
"Indian Joe has his good days and his bad days but he loves helping others, especially passing on knowledge about our homeless communities and Native American history."
"Indian Joe and many other long time San Franciscan residents are all part of our great collective history of charity and giving in our community and we should all be proud of what people like him and organizations like St. Anthony's does to help us all when we are at our neediest."
"Indian Joe is loved by the volunteers at St. Anthony's and Joe has spent a great deal of time volunteering to teach at various groups and schools to help break down barriers and myths, like a bridge of mutual respect and understanding between the people who still have good homes and stable jobs and those that don't."
Well, if everything works out lifesize photos of Indian Joe may be coming to a ClearChannel Billboard near you.
---
We just hope he doesn't forget us back in the T/L when he makes it to the top ! If he ends up appearing at Radio City Music Hall in New York, we'll keep you posted.
BEST OF LUCK TO INDIAN JOE AND ST. ANTHONY'S
